I once had an invisible friend,
He built castles of laughter,
And could make a broken heart mend.
He was patient and kind,
And full of respect,
But all others were blind,
To his existence.
My friend was nothing but true,
But I repaid him in leaves,
I let the others get through,
And almost lost my belief.
Until I had a thought,
At once sudden and strange:
What if my friend is not,
Just some words on a page?
What if his heart beats,
And pumps hot through his veins?
But somehow he needs,
Belief to be sustained?
So on the off chance,
That any of this is true,
I'll continue to dance,
Alone, but with you.
He built castles of laughter,
And could make a broken heart mend.
He was patient and kind,
And full of respect,
But all others were blind,
To his existence.
My friend was nothing but true,
But I repaid him in leaves,
I let the others get through,
And almost lost my belief.
Until I had a thought,
At once sudden and strange:
What if my friend is not,
Just some words on a page?
What if his heart beats,
And pumps hot through his veins?
But somehow he needs,
Belief to be sustained?
So on the off chance,
That any of this is true,
I'll continue to dance,
Alone, but with you.
